Overview

This 303 was previously paired with the 33 we have for sale in another listing. Collectively, they were Quad’s first transistor preamp/poweramp. Designed to last the ages, the combo is still one of the more sought after British classic pieces from that  great 60/70s era. At $400 MSRP back in 1967, it wasn’t exactly cheap (it would have been $3,600 in today’s dollars) but when paired with the 33, the sound is just simply gorgeous. Amp produces 45W per channel and sounds sweet and warm. It likes speakers with easier impedance (like 8 ohms and up) which is why they were the perfect match to the 15 ohm Rogers LS3/5a version. Voltage selector switch on the back panel allows selection between 110V to 240V so it can be used anywhere in the World. Amp will only accept speaker banana plugs.

Cosmetically, the unit looks really good with minor scuff marks here and there but nothing major. The grey finish matches the grey finish of the 33 for a picture perfect finish. Unit was recapped and serviced about three years ago so it is ready to be enjoyed for another twenty more years. Cables included are

  1. 4-pin DIN to 4-pin DIN cable to connect this to a QUAD preamp preout
  2. 4-pin DIN to 2 RCA cable to connect to a preamp with RCA out

There is no ON/OFF switch on the amp as it was designed to be connected to the 33 preamp which turns it on when the 33 is turned on. So if you plan to get it on its own, either put a switch on the AC cord or have a switchable outlet on your power conditioner/ power strip. Manual is available online and unit will be securely packed for safe shipping.
