The OMD-5 is quite a remarkable speaker if you never had a chance to listen to one before. Its patented Omniguide module and Ribbed Elliptical Surround does a remarkable job in reproducing music with a lot of air and spatial quality around it. Because music is “bounced off” in a 360 degree environment, it makes use of wall spaces around it to create a wide soundstage with an impressive depth in the middle. Both mid/bass woofer and tweeter uses Titanium in their material makeup which obviously led to very detailed highs and tight punchy bass (even though its mid/bass woofer is only 5.5″ in size). Pairing them with a subwoofer is good idea but on its own, the bass level is amazing. As desktop speakers, they will bring “computer time” a whole new level of enjoyment.
Cosmetically, the speakers look good. Minor scuff marks/nicks here and there that are common with use but nothing major. More importantly, they sound remarkable. Like we said before, add a subwoofer and the 2.1 combo will rival any speakers costing up to $2,000. They are that good.
