Overview
At one time, the Karik CD player/transport was the toast of the town. It was an awesome standalone CD player and if you want to raise the performance bar of the Karik, you add the Numerik DAC. Whether used on its own or as a reference transport & DAC combo, the Karik was the furthest away from the grainy, harsh sounding CD players typical of the time. Even now, it is no slouch when put up against CD players costing up to $3,000. The Linn Karik has an endearing warm sound. Nice sweet highs, a tad light in the bass but maintains a good overall balance. Good amplification and speakers are required to complete the overall package and when you have that, you will be in for a treat. The transport on the Karik is a much better unit that Linn’s other CD players (like the Mimik) which is why many owners of the Karik “upgraded” by adding the Numerik DAC and running the Karik as a transport.
This unit was recently serviced by an authorized service center in NYC where it was re-capped and calibrated back to original factory specs. Cosmetically, the unit looks good with minor scuff marks/nicks here and there. A Linn system remote is included and unit will be securely packed for safe shipping.
