This is one of the most recognizable preamp in hifidom. Introduced in the late Eighties as Audio Research’s flagship preamp, the SP15’s quick drawing of Worldwide attention ensured it found its way to many audiophile’s home around the World.  The two chassis design puts the power supply in its own chassis away from the more sensitive input/output boards. Unlike the SP11 model, an earlier model, where six tubes are used, the SP15 uses three 6922 tubes only and only in the phono section. The line inputs are routed through semiconductors for their gain output. The difference in sound between the two really comes down to a warmer tone in the SP11 and a cleaner, slightly more transparent and refined sound in the SP15. The phono section in the SP15 is as good as any standalone phono preamp that cost up to $2,000 MSRP. Hotly sought after when it first came to the market, it is still highly desired by many audiophiles who missed listening to its warm, refined and smooth sound. The unit you see here had one previous owner since new and had a huge vinyl collection that was thoroughly enjoyed via the SP15 and a pair of Classic 120 monoblocks (also for sale in another listing). The power supply unit has four outlets on the back for three switched and one unswitched with a total of 1600W.

Cosmetically, the preamp looks good with minor scuff marks/nicks here and there common with use. Preamp was fully serviced back in 2015 where worn out caps and resistors were replaced. We don’t have the original box or manual (its available online) but will securely pack it for safe shipping. This is a two box shipment so figure x2 for total shipping cost.
