Overview
If a stunning statement piece CD player is what you dream off, seek no further than what you see here. The SCD-10 MKII is from Vitus Audio’s Signature series which sits just below the Reference Series and to some extent, the more “affordable” reference grade CD player (even though it still carried a price tag of $20,000!). This massively over built CD player is deceptively nondescript. With a small display window in the front, three buttons on each side of the screen, the SCD-10 MKII actually packs a lot of advance technology inside its chunky metal “tomb”. CDs are “strapped” in via its top loading design after you manually slide the tray cover open and close. Considerably less techno wizardry than Sony’s SCD-1 but just as effective all the same. And when it came to listening, the level class could not be more different between the two. If you had listened to the Sony first, you would have probably stayed breathless for a couple of seconds as you get mesmerized by its ability to draw out every musical nuances and the stunning audio display it lays out in front of you. But when you switch over to the SCD-10 MKII, you will probably forget to breathe all together as it presents a sultry landscape that is so devoid of digital glare, the clean cut details in every corner of the soundstage and the captivating imaging it builds between your speakers. This is a truly reference level player that even edges out our perennial favorite – the Esoteric P-03/ D-03 combo.
Cosmetically, the player is in great shape. Minor scuff marks from use but nothing major. We also have the matching integrated amp for a two component reference system that will thrash many setups that cost cost just as much if not more but with less clutter. We have the original remote, a generic heavy duty AC cord and double box for it.
