Overview
The F2A11 tube integrated amp you see here is Thoress’s “one box” alternative to their 300B monoblocks (we have sold that). This integrated is a minimalist design (like the rest of their lineup) and is totally focus on extracting the best music playback possible. The key difference between this and its 300B monoblocks is the use of F2A11 tubes versus 300B. The F2A11 tubes are the more exotic of the two and have a very “special” sonic signature. Many users of F2A11 tubes swears they are better than 300Bs and in many respects, we concur. The 300B can sound sweet but the F2A11 has almost similar sweetness but with a bit more “sophistication” and a bit more tighter sounding. Power output is 6-8W so speakers with 94 dB and more are needed. Our Zingali HM215 speakers produced a thunderous soundstage with them and would have fooled anyone into thinking they were being driven by monstrous amps had we not revealed that they were being driven by the F2A11. Hand build in Germany with an “industrial” look to it, the F2A11 has only 3 knobs – one for selecting the three line inputs on the unit and two knobs for controlling the L and R volume levels. Integrated is currently wired up for 8 ohm speakers. This is their newer and current design with the silver aluminum faceplate and rear panel. Unit is approx 24″ deep, 6″ wide and and about 12″ tall. Its designed to sit sideways where it allows you easy input selection and volume control on the top of the unit. Not the most ideal visual setup but all that is forgiven once you sink into the music it produces. Hours on the tubes are about 500 hours but F2A11 tubes are known to last 20,000 hours so plenty of life left.
Cosmetically, the unit is in really nice shape. Minor scuff marks here and there but nothing major. One of the guide pins under one of the F2A11 tube is broken off but has no impact on the performance and installation of the tube. Unit will be securely packed for safe shipping.
