Stereophile magazine called the Sphinx V3 one of the greatest high-end audio of all time. It utilizes two 12AU7 tubes in its hybrid design with Class D output stage. In 8 ohm, it puts out 100W and in 4 ohm, 200W. Which was more than sufficient in driving most speakers unless you have a real power hungry pair of speakers. The Sphinx is a very straightforward design with three line inputs and a phono input. The phono input is good for either MM and high output MC cartridges. Dip switches inside allows selection of resistive loading values from 30 ohm to 47k ohm. For the price, the phono section is actually very good. In our opinion, the phono section is as good as any standalone phono preamp costing up to $1,500. But with the additional flexibility of three line inputs, remote control and amplification, the Sphinx V3 is a much better deal. So whether you use it with a turntable or CD player or both, the Sphinx V3 will make an excellent foundation in the system with its clear, warm, well defined sound.
Cosmetically, the unit is in very nice shape. Minor scuff marks from use but nothing major. Remote control looks worn but that’s probably due to the use of a transparent clear plastic case. Remote control only has three buttons – mute, volume up and volume down. We have the original box, copy of manual and will securely pack it for safe shipping.
