Overview
Under Mark Levinson’s 400 series, the 436 monoblock amp is their “flagship” and most powerful amp in the lineup. Needless to say, it is also the most expensive in a four model lineup. With 350W in 8 ohm and 700W in 4 ohm, the No.436 is a ridiculously powerful amp. The huge transformer and huge caps in each amp is the “engine” of this power. Music took on a whole new level of authority, bass energy, warmth and extended highs when you listen to your music through them. Details were plentiful and the soundstage was wide and deep. Right next to the Krell EVO402e amp (another massive solid state amp), the Levinson would be our choice if you want something warmer and smoother. But if you want detail, absolute transparency and a huge reservoir of power (similarly to the Levinson), the Krell is our other pick. Either one would do great justice in elevating any hifi system to the reference level. Each amp weighs a good solid 85 lbs and measures 18″ wide, 20″ deep and 8″ tall.
Cosmetically, they look really good. Some minor scuff marks/nicks here and there that is common with use but nothing major. Amps have one owner from new and were just recently service with the old caps and resistors replaced (cost us more than $5,000). We don’t have their original boxes but they will be securely packed and strapped on a pallet for safe shipping.
