Overview
As a speaker that carries the Linn badge, the Majik 109 monitor speakers at $1,600 MSRP is quite the bargain. Using some of the trickle down technology from their reference speaker (that cost nearly $50,000), the 109 is a three-way, reflex loaded speaker that has a 0.75″ supertweeter in addition to its 1.2″ soft-dome tweeter. The paper-cone woofer is the third driver . Frequency range is 72Hz – 20kHz with a nominal impedance of 4 ohm and a sensitivity of 88dB. It is front ported so placement close to a back wall is possible to supplement some additional bass energy. But strong sturdy stands are definitely a must to extract out the best from these speakers. We had them on 26″ stands and about seven feet apart and about three feet away from the side walls and two feet away from the back wall. The soundstage was glorious with good depth and imaging. Vocals were particularly exemplary for a pair of speakers at this price point especially competing brands like Spendor and Harbeth can cost much more with little or no discernible difference between them (in our opinion).
Speakers are very well made. Finish on this pair is oak and except for 2 tiny dings on the top edge of one speaker, they look really good. One owner from new (less than two years old) and we have the original packaging for them. They will be securely packed for safe shipping.
