Overview
This flagship DAC/headphone amp/preamp sits just under one square foot of real estate but packs so much technology within it, its mind boggling. The DAC section is a state of the art Burr-Brown’s DSD & DXD DAC masterpiece with four interleaved 64-element converters. This means that there are 256 element DAC per channel. It will decode signals of up to 756 kHz (USB) and 192kHz/24Bit via AES/EBU and S/PDIF and 192kHz/32Bit via WiFi/Network/storage devices. MQA decoding is also offered on this model. There are a lot more technical details on their website so we will just focus on our listening session with it. This is a top flight precision sounding unit plain and simple. The level of detail extraction is first class and among the best in the under $5,000 DAC category. Similar to the Schitt Audio Freya+ preamp we have for sale in another listing, the Pro iDSD offers three output stages – solid state, Class A tube output and a tube+ output stage where negative feedbacks are reduced to a minimum. Two GE5670 tubes are used in the output stages.
Cosmetically, this unit is in pretty nice shape. We have the manual and original box but no antenna or remote (you can purchase them from iFi directly) and will have it securely packed for safe shipping.
