Overview
These are the “smaller” alternative to the APM 1 which has 15″ woofers and an additional titanium 5.5″ midrange driver. With a 12″ woofer instead, the APM 2 is 22″ deep versus 25″ on the APM 1. It is also slightly shorter at 55″ versus 64.5″ of the AMP 1. Width is about the same at 10″ and on board amp is a 350W unit to drive the subs. Nominal impedance is 4 ohm with a sensitivity of 90db and a frequency response of 25 Hz to 32 kHz. There are five drivers on each speaker – two planar ribbon tweeters (one front and one rear), which many reviewers have considered them to be the best in the World, two 6.5″ metal cone mid-woofers and a 12″ side firing metal cone woofer. Being that they are dipole in design, having them place optimally in your room will give you a huge spacious soundstage. There are also control knobs on the back where you can make finer adjustments to the tweeter volume level, woofer volume and the low pass frequency you want to set the woofer for (which you can set between 71 to 90 Hz). If you have listen to any Genesis speakers before, you were probably captivated by its soundstage, presence and speed. The APM 2 will refresh your memory again on that. We have a copy of the manual which provides one of the best explanation on setting the speakers right in each respective room. We suggest you take some time to read it and experiment with where the speakers should be optimally placed in your room.
The pair you see here looks good overall. Some minor scuff marks/nicks here and there common with use but expected from a speaker of this vintage. The plastic cap over the +ve speaker binding posts had gone missing but binding posts works fine. The control knob for the “tweeter” on one speaker has been replaced by the previous owner because the original fell off and went missing. Controls also work fine. There are no grille covers or boxes so local pickup from our store only.
