The DQ-10 is one of the most recognizable speaker from the Eighties. It was also easily mistaken for the other legend from across the pond – the Quad ESL-57. Both were great speakers and you won’t go wrong choosing either one but if don’t want to have extra cables (as in power cords for the ESL-57) running across your music room and worry about electrostatic panels, the DQ-10 is the easier choice. The DQ-10 is 5-way phased array speaker with an open baffle. Which means it like lots of space around it to really sound its best. Frequency response is 35 Hz – 27 kHz with a nominal impedance of 8 ohm. Each speaker has a 10″ woofer, 5″ mid-bass, 1.5″ soft dome mid-range, 0.75″ tweeter and a piezoelectric super tweeter. With the correct placement in the room and on their stands (which are included), you will be facing a sea wall of music. Its like standing on the beach with the wide ocean in front of you with the distance as far as your eye can see. If you have been looking for a pair of speaker that will engulf you with music, the DQ-10 will do it for so little money when compared to other competing speakers. It not have the exacting precision of speakers that runs into five figure territories but at under $1,000 now, it will literally crush the competition in this price range. So it is not surprising that Dahlquist went on to sell more than 60,000 pairs of this speaker. In fact, support for this speaker continues (after more than 30 years since production stopped) with upgrades that you could order to make them sound even better.
Cosmetically, the speaker looks good for its vintage (1 owner from NEW) with some scuff marks here and there. Stands may need new veneers or you can just glue the veneers back. Local pickup from our store preferred but if shipping is required, they will be shipped strapped on a pallet.
