Overview
This was the next best thing after the $8,000 SSP-800 which offers HDMI. But if you don’t need HDMI or just looking for a great stereo preamp, the SSP-600 is an excellent choice. It is much more flexible over the cheaper SSP-300 and sound wise, does an excellent job operating as a stereo preamp. In an home theater environment, it is just as awesome minus the HDMI shortcoming. Unit was previously the anchor of a $60,000 HT system and the owner didn’t see the need to replace it until now where he took a plunge with the Datasat RS20i (almost $30,000) which is a sophisticated and really top end AV preamp that he eventually concluded had the right stuff to beat the SSP-600.
Cosmetically, the unit looks good. Some light scratches towards the two rear sides from moving in and out of a rack but faceplate and top plate is nice and clean. Remote is included and the manual can be found online. Unit will be securely packed for safe shipping.
