The one thing that always stands out for Carver is how affordable their components are. The performance to price ratio is always through the roof. Take the M-500t stereo amp you see here. It pumps out 251W in 8 ohm, 450W in 4 ohm and 500W in 2 ohm. At $630 back then, barely more than $2,100 in today’s money, this was an incredible buy! Which is why they have been increasing in value over the years where they now sell for more than their original MSRP (especially those that have been recapped and serviced). Power meters in the front are always a nice addition (McIntosh’s meters are nicer) but its the powerful sound that it brings to any audiophile system that steals the show. It may not have the refinement or finesse of high end amps but than again it probably cost than 1/10th of a “high end” amp. In fact, for the budget or mid-range priced system, the Carver proved more than capable in delivering a top notch sound. And when it is bridged (see our other listing for the 2nd unit) it morphs into a 700W power house.
Unit was re-capped and service (paperwork included) six years ago so it still has plenty of life left. Optional rack handles and manual are included. Cosmetically, it looks really good for its vintage with just minor scuff marks common with use. It will be securely packed for safe shipping.
