As the “Compact” version of the DCM-9, this has the 9″ woofer instead of the 11″ woofer in the non-compact version. Cabinet dimensions are the same at 14.5″ wide, 12″ deep and 23″ tall and weighs slightly lesser at 42 lbs. Frequency response is 28 Hz to 20 kHz with a nominal impedance of 8 ohm and a sensitivity of 95 dB. These speakers should be mounted on a sturdy 12″ or 14″ stands where you will relish its expansive soundstage, detail and clarity. It ran very competitively with the ADS L980 large monitor speakers that we sold earlier with the ADS sounding a bit thicker in the mids and a more “oomph” in the bass. The Dahlquist, which has a bit more studio use design direction was more detailed and precise in their presentation. Regardless, its an impressive sounding speaker from the Eighties. Give it some back room (two ports in the rear), side space and mount them on sturdy stands with good amplification and they will sound more than their affordable $595 price tag now. German made Magnat drivers are a dream!
Cosmetically, the speaker looks good for its vintage with minor scuff marks here and there. One of the grille covers are a bit “weak” on the joints so exercise a bit more caution when pulling them out and one of the tweeter’s dust cap has a few dimples (no impact on performance). Local pickup from our store preferred but if shipping is required, they will be securely packed. They will be shipped in two boxes.
