This phono preamp is something of a budget price wonder. Priced at only $450 MSRP, it comes in an all metal 2-chassis setup where the beefy power supply is built into a separate chassis on its own. This keeps any kind of electrical interference from affecting the sensitive phono boards in the other chassis. A button on the front allows you to switch between MM or MC. There are no adjustable values that you need to toggle with as Vincent Audio has assigned a fixed value to both the MM and MC cartridge options. Input sensitivity for MM is 58 mV and MC is 6.8 mV. Input impedance is 47 kOhm for MM and 100 Ohm for MC. Output impedance is 250 Ohm.
If you have a turntable costing up to $1,500, the PHO-8 phono preamp will pair up very nicely. It was impressively quiet with a tad on the warm sound of music reproduction. Detailing is only limited to type of cartridge used. The better the cartridge, the better the details. We ran our $1,500 London Super Gold MM cartridge through it and the PHO-8 was equal to the task even though the cartridge cost three times as much. No wonder Absolute Sound magazine raved about it.
Cosmetically, the amp is in good condition. Minor scuff marks/nicks from use but nothing major. Units will be securely packed for safe shipping.
