The VR-3 was quite the bargain speaker in its day with its aggressive pricing over the VR-4 which we had sold earlier. The VR-3 may be slightly smaller and is a “one piece” speaker unit as compared to the two piece VR-4 but sonically, we found it hard to tell them apart unless you are playing it loud or have both speakers setup in a larger room. In the small to medium size room, the VR-3 almost ran on par with the VR-4. The bass may be less “thunderous” but it shares the same spatially wide soundstage as the VR-4 and there was the same openness and ease as music flows through the speakers. Placement and room interaction does come into play with the speakers so careful placement and adjustment with its ambiance control on the rear can bring about some degree of imporvement as you find the ideal “spot” in your room. Each speaker is about 44″ tall, 12″ wide and 16″ deep. Nominal impedance is 6 ohm with a sensitivity of 87dB. Frequency response is an impressive 26Hz-25KHz. Recommended power is a minimum 25W to 250W.
Cosmetically, the speakers are in very good condition for its age. A small corner wear on the grille on the rear corner of one speaker and a “splitting” of wood grain on the wooden base plinth of one of the speaker are the only noticeable cosmetic boo boos. The top panel on the speakers are fine with very minor marks. We don’t have the original box but will securely pack and ship them as freight for safe arrival. Local pickup from our store is welcomed.
