The PowerPlane 1.2 speaker you see here was part of a five piece home theater setup that had five of them installed in the wall of the home theater room (see our other listing for the other four pieces). In the in-wall category of speakers, they are at the top end of the spectrum – solid construction and a benchmark setting sound for in-wall speakers. The speaker has a 6.5″ aluminum woofer and a 1″ aluminum tweeter mounted in the center of the driver utilizing Thiel’s Coherent Source technology. In this setup, the speaker has an uncanny ability to project out music with minimal or zero time and phase distortions. Which as a result, improved its imaging and presentation. The self enclosed aluminum cabinet (which many other in-wall speakers do not have) helps trap in the vibrations from leaking out to the walls which may corrupt the sound. Frequency range of the speaker is between 75 Hz to 20 KHz with a nominal impedance of 4 ohm and a sensitivity of 89 dB. The speaker does like to be driven with a decently powerful amp so figure around 40W and more for it. Wall opening would be approx 14.5″ x 8″ x 4″. The solid construction of the speaker is evident through its 9 lb weight which is on average, twice that of a similarly spec in-wall speaker from the other brands.
Cosmetically, the speaker looks good. Minor scuff marks here and there which are common with use but can be easily touch up with a fresh coat of paint. You can even repaint it in another color to suit your room if you prefer. Speaker will be securely packed for safe shipping. As mentioned earlier, we have five of these speakers so contact us for a package deal if you want to get all five.
