The CS2.4 is another perfect example why Thiel is such a highly respected speaker brand. From the moment get go, the speakers displayed a transparency, focus, clear mids and a resounding tight bass that echoed a “live” stage in our room. Vocal tracks were incredibly realistic and holographic and placed right in the center between the speakers. The speakers does need a beefy amplifier to drive them (we used our reference ASR amp to drive them) and makes a distinction between a 50W and 150W amp with a fuller sound when the bigger amp is driving them. Thiel recommends an amp with a power output of 100W to 400W. Impedance is a nominal 4 ohm with a sensitivity of 87dB. The main drivers are aluminum based where the 1″ dome tweeter resides within the 3.5″ mid driver and the bass is produced by an 8″ driver. Bottom end is further supplemented with an “oval” passive radiator. Frequency response is 36Hz – 25 KHz.
Speakers do need some experimenting with the positioning to “enhance” the realism of a live stage sound in your room. But get it right and you will be in for a treat. They have a fairly narrow foot print (11″ x 14″) but stands 41″ tall. Finish on these speakers are the premium birdseye maple. Speakers look good overall with minor scuff marks here and there. One of the tweeter has a bit of wrinkle but does not impact its performance. Grille covers have a few tiny holes and some running strands but looks good overall.
Due to their weight, they will be ship freight for safe arrival. Local pickup is welcomed.
