The modest looking Boxer monitor speaker from Nola Speakers doesn’t sound like anything the word “boxer” may suggest. In fact, when they are mounted on top a sturdy and weighted pair of speaker stands, the Boxer speakers sounded musically open with a nice spacious soundstage with an impressive dynamic range that a speaker this size might suggest otherwise. Frequency response is an impressive 44Hz to 28KHz with a nominal impedance of 8 ohms and a sensitivity of 90dB. The speaker is 8″ wide, 15.5″ tall and 11.5″ deep. A rear port allowed for some bass tuning experimentation with positioning the speakers to the rear wall and to the room acoustics the room it is going in. But in our 18′ by 12′ room, we preferred placing them about 3′ off the rear wall and 2′ from side wall and about 7′ apart. This allowed the speakers to add some “live” element to the listening session and depth. Imaging was dimensional and and sounded compressed like some other monitor speakers. The bass was tight and the mids was smooth and warm with nicely defined highs. Drivers used are a 6.5″ mid-woofer and a 1″ dome tweeter.
Cosmetically, the speakers look good. The top of the speakers has some light scratches/scuff marks but otherwise, the rest of the speakers look good. We don’t have the original box but will securely pack them for safe shipping.
