The Classic 20 was Mordaunt Short’s mid-range offering and if you love the rich mid-range sound that is commonly associated with British speakers, the Classic 20 does not disappoint. The speakers are solidly constructed with a nice solid fee when we gave it the knuckle test around the cabinet. Its 6.5″ mid-woofer and 1.5″ dome tweeter are stylishly secured with the screws holding them hidden away which gave the front fascia a clean flush look. A pair of heavy speaker stands are mandatory as these speaker can really pump up the energy in your listening room and having them properly secured an isolated helps tighten its soundstage presentation. Each speaker is 8.5″ wide, 10.5″ deep and 14.5″ tall. The speaker will play within a very respectable 38 Hz to 20 kHz with a nominal impedance of 8 ohm and a sensitivity of 89dB. We drove them with 50W of Class A and they were magical. Mid-range presence was strong and the bass fairly powerful for a monitor speaker. The highs were detailed and precise. For under $300 now, they are a bargain.
Cosmetically, the speakers have some scuff marks/nicks here and there which you can refresh with a new coat of paint (if you want). But they look presentable for a $300 used speaker. Speakers will be securely packed for safe shipping.
