This was one of Krell’s later offering at a price point that really sets it apart from the other sub-$5,000 competition. The preamp was designed with the option to add a DAC module but the previous owner didn’t take it up (as did most buyers of the Phantom III) and basically used it as a preamp that was paired to another masterful Krell amp – the EVO 2250e. Together, they are all about being precise with music. Details were aplenty and were all delivered in a crispy and clear manner. Bass was tight and punchy and had so much energy that pairing them with larger speakers were way better than pairing them to monitor speakers. The preamp is a straightforward dual mono design and very well executed. If a clean, transparent sound is what you aim for, the Phantom III will not disappoint. Krell has made some preamps with a five figure price tag but the Phantom III you see here is almost on par with those but at a more affordable price tag.
Cosmetically, there are some very minor scuff marks from being used but nothing major. Original remote is included and you can download the manual from Krell’s website. Unit will be securely packed for safe shipping.
