Side by side with our Rogers LS 3/5, the KEF C20 is a remarkable monitor speaker. And to be honest, it actually sound pretty good for the money. It has deeper bass, a rich mid-range and a nicely rolled off top end. In a sub-$1,500 system, we found it tough to decide which is the better speaker. But when we switch around some of the components (to more expensive units), than the difference between the two was a bit more obvious. The Rogers needs better components to shine but in a budget system, the KEF was equal if not slightly better sounding. Placed them on good solid stands and you get a very well laid out soundstage with good weight and dimensions. Vocals are their forte and they project a pretty impressive holographic image of the singer in our room. If you are in the market for a budget monitor speaker, you should have the KEF C20 on your list.
Cosmetically, the speaker looks good. Some scuff marks and a few tiny dings along the edges and a few tiny holes on the grille cover that you would need to step up close to see. We don’t have the original box but will securely pack them for safe shipping.
