This is a pair of speakers that actually sounded just as impressive as its spec sheet. Standing 42″ tall, 10″ wide and 14″ deep, it does not take up more square footage than a typical monitor speaker on stands. But the scale of its presentation is far larger in terms of width, height and depth. Loaded with a high frequency horn and dual 6.5″ PolyPlas woofer cones, the speakers have a frequency response of 40Hz to 40KHz which outclasses many speakers for the same amount of money to own this pair of beauty. With a nominal impedance of 6 ohm and a sensitivity of 90dB, the Studio 580s are very tube friendly (except with low wattage 300B tube amps) and we were able to capitalize on it with a variety of tube amps we had had in the store. And that is where the magic comes in. The soundstage was impressively well focused with a tall, deep and wide presentation. Mids and highs were precise and well defined and backed up with a tight, solid bottom end. The soundstage was a bit more forward than your typical monitor speakers (or other mid size floorstanders) when they were placed in the same spot, so our typical listening position was pushed back 1-2 feet from our usual 7 feet in our medium size room to get the full scale of its presentation. You may want to experiment with that in your own listening room if you get these speakers.
Cosmetically, the speaker looks really good. Minor scuff marks from use but nothing major. One owner since new. Original boxes included. Speakers are shipped in two large boxes so shipping will not be cheap due to the dimensional weight. But actual weight of the speakers are a very manageable 50lbs.
