The Phi3-i is a compact monitor speaker that projects a bigger soundstage than its size suggest. Measuring just 7″ wide, 13″ tall and 9.5″ deep, each speaker uses one 5.25″ woofer and one 1″ tweeter to lay out this impressive grand soundstage in your listening room. Ideally suited for small to medium size rooms, the Phi3-i needs a sturdy speaker stand to sound its best. It can be placed on shelves if you are not too critical with imaging etc but a well damped pair of stands is where they are intheir elements. Frequency response is 48 Hz to 40 KHz with a nominal impedance of 4 ohm and a sensitivity of 87dB. Being rear ported, they should be place away from the rear wall, ideally two feet away (at least in our room we did that) and about six feet apart from each other. Small they may be but they are quick punching speakers. They pulsate nicely with our 100W amp and they sounded very confident with that respectfully large soundstage that could have produced by other larger monitor speakers. The mids were smooth and clean and not too overly complex while the highs were detailed but not harsh. They kind of reminded us of Acoustic Energy AE1 but on a smoother scale.
Cosmetically, the unit is nice shape. Minor scuff marks from use but nothing major and one of the top right corner of one of the speaker had some kind of touch up due to the metal “button” on the grille cover (they are magnetically held on) making a slight indent during shipping from the factory to the former owner. Once the grille cover is on, it is not noticeable. We don’t have the original box but will securely packed them for safe shipping.
