The 1027 BE speakers you see here was the “entry” ticket to enjoy the fabulous sounds of the Utopia series. For much less money, you would get the same 3-way setup with Beryllium tweeters and the W-Cone mid and bass woofers that were used in the Utopia series. Needless to say, this was a great strategy which eventually saw the 1027 BE speakers become of the best selling speakers following their launch. Listening to these speakers is like watching a movie on a 4K TV versus plasma. There was so much vibrancy, detail and dynamic punch coming out from these speakers that you would just sink yourself further in your listening chair and enjoy more music.
Driving the speakers were fairly easy. They have a nominal impedance of 8 ohms and a sensitivity of 91dB. We drove them with a pair of Monarchy Audio 70W Class A monoblocks and the Conrad Johnson LP-66S2 with fantastic results. Speakers do drop to 3-4 ohms so make sure your amp has that ability. Bass response dips down to 38Hz which is more than sufficient in most but the largest of rooms.
Cosmetically, the speakers look really good. Minor scuff marks here and there but nothing major. The only thing we found, which is a QC issue, is some underlying marks under the glass piece on the top of one speaker (see pic). Its not really noticeable unless you look from the top and under certain angle/light conditions. We have the original boxes but due to their size and weight, they will have to be shipped freight. Local pickup from our store can be arranged.
