This was Concert Fidelity’s phono preamp in their Reference Series lineup. It may have evolved into the SPA-4C FX now but this is still class leading phono stage regardless. The beauty with this phono preamp is how “delicate”, “gentle” it sounds. It is almost tube-like sounding without the presence of any tubes in it. Circuitry is kept to the bare minimum to ensure purity of sound and it shows. It does not sound “heavy laden” like the ASR we have for sale in another listing but seems to project the music image in a lighter footing, like a “fairy like” effect. Background noise was very quiet and worked beautifully with the Benz Micro LP S and the Lyra Delos. At its $14,000 MSRP, the SPA-4C does have some stiff competition with other high end phono stages but at under $4,000 now, its among the best you can buy for under $4,000. Input impedance is selectable internally for 10, 30 and 100 ohm via 3 dip switches and gain is 50-65dB at 1 KHz via two dip switches.
Cosmetically, the unit is in really nice shape. We have the original box for it.
