Canary Audio’s C1600-L tube line stage preamp is a hidden gem. When pitch against VAC Renaissance Signature MKII preamp (that we just sold), the C1600-L held its own very well and in many areas sounded better. It has the same warmth but was better defined, more delicate and not as richly textured as the VAC. Bass was clean and tight and the highs sweet and pin point. It may not have a phono input but then again it is also $3,000 (at MSRP) cheaper which you could put towards a dedicated separate phono preamp. Design and built quality like all Canary products are top rated. It uses four 6SN7 tubes in the line stage section (versus 2x 8416 and 2x 12AU7 tubes in the VAC) and 1x GZ34, 2x 6V6 and 1x 6SL7 in the power supply. The preamp was engineered with simplicity in design so no more conveniences like a remote control and its accompanying circuitry to “corrupt” the sound. Each chassis measure approx 19″ wide, 14″ deep and 5.25″ tall and collectively weighs almost 60 lbs.
Cosmetically, the units are in very nice shape. Minor scuff marks from use but nothing major. We have the original box for them. Canary Audio is a California company and the preamps are proudly Made in the USA! See our other listing for the matching M350 tube monoblocks from Canary Audio!
