B&W has always made great speakers, big or small. And the XT-2 is no exception. With an aluminum cabinet, a 5.75″ kevlar woofer and a 1″ aluminum tweeter, the XT-2 delivered a clean and clear sound that really brings out the music even with such a small footprint. Frequency response is 55 Hz to 22 KHz with a nominal impedance of 8 ohm and a sensitivity of 85 dB. B&W recommends a minimum amplifier power of 30W to drive them but we ran them with 100W and they sounded splendid. Bass although not deep was tight and impressive for a speaker this small (6″ wide, 8″ deep and 12.3″ tall). Mid-range was fairly neutral but precise with good depth and scale. The highs were sharp but not over bearing. For the audiophile who wants a bit more extension in the bass area, you can always add a subwoofer where it will transform the speaker setup into a full range, big scale 2.1 system.
Cosmetically, there are some minor scuff marks here and there but nothing major. Speakers just underwent some chemical cleaning to clean out the “latex” finish that B&W applied to the speaker. Over time, that latex finish disintegrates and becomes gooey so we had that removed. The surface affected is the front and top baffle. Now that it is removed, it is down to its plastic base which you can always spray paint over and it would look great again. Grille covers are a bit loose but can be secured more tightly with a bit of Blu-Tack. Speakers were previously mounted on walls so the wall mount is included (speaker side only). Speakers will be carefully packed for safe arrival.
