The 800 series of speakers from B&W are one of the most compelling range of speakers ever to be offered by any manufacturer. Depending on your budget, room size etc you can pick any model (that is suitable to your needs) and it is highly unlikely you will be displease with it.
This pair of 805 Diamonds (and should not be mistaken with the other 805 variants) are a statement piece when it comes to sub-$8,000 monitor speakers. They may be the smallest speaker in the 800 series but shares the familiar, robust, richly detailed and clear sound that we have heard from the rest of the range. It is rated to do down to 49Hz (goes up to 28KHz) but sounded deeper than that in some of listening sessions. The “monitor size” designation doesn’t really do justice as the 805 Diamonds can sound bigger than some similarly priced floorstanders we have in the store. Proper placement is important but good quality components are critical. It’s 8 ohm nominal impedance and 88db sensitivity does demand a power input of 50W or more. We had it paired with a McIntosh MC252 and the ASR integrated amp with stunning results.
As you can see from the pictures, the speakers are in very nice condition with just minor scuff marks. If you see some minor “grooves” on the speakers, they are the natural grain of the wood. The dedicated stands ($700 MSRP) that you see, are included in the sale price. The stands are very important as far as we are concerned because it was designed for it and being that it was designed for it, allowed the speakers to be screwed on to the stands to form an integral speaker column unit. We do not have the original packaging but can securely pack them for safe shipping. The stands will be dismantled and shipped separately. So shipping will be a two box affair. Finish is gloss black. Local pickup is welcomed.
