The D300 from Audio Research is like the workhorse in their stables. Tremendously powerful with 300W per channel into 4 ohms and 160W in 8 ohms, it has more than enough “juice” to drive just about any speaker. “Reaction time” on the D300 is amazingly quick. From the moment you hit the power on button, within a split second, it is ready to go. Soundwise, it is fairly neutral and highly reactive with the preamp being used. With tube preamps, it produced a warm but tight sound and with solid state preamps, it was clean sounding with a little hint of coloration. All-in-all, a very nice sounding amp and priced very affordable at its original $4,000 MSRP and a real steal now at under $1500.
Cosmetically, the amp looks good with minor scuff marks here and there common with use. We don’t have the original box or manual (its available online) but will securely pack it for safe shipping.
