The Tempo is Audio Physics’ more endearing series. And the pair you see here is their 3i version which spots two 6.5″ woofer and one 1″ tweeter which is a new introduction and different from their earlier models. The simplicity in design and execution is what brought the Tempo into stardom and the 3i is further evidence of the evolving nature of the Tempo series. It was able to seamlessly playback all kinds of music with a certain smoothness, rich textures and sweet highs that draws each listener to its magical realm. Bass depth may not be as deep as later Tempo models which had additional woofers firing from the side but the Tempo 3i was adequate enough to compete with similarly price competing brands. Audiophiles who were looking for monitor speakers should look at the Tempo 3i because it has the quality of a monitor speaker but with an “integrated stand/column”. And it would occupy just about the same square footage as a pair of monitor speakers on stands. Bass response does reach down to a satisfying 34Hz when called for but bass nuts who wants room shaking bass may find it lacking. Vocals and soundstaging were Tempo 3i’s strong point and when paired with quality hifi gears and positioned correctly, can really steal the limelight from other sub-$1,000 speakers (based on our used asking price). Its original $3,800 MSRP back in the late Nineties was very pricey for its time but now you can own that high level of quality for much less.
Speakers are easy to drive with a nominal impedance of 4 ohm and a sensitivity of 90dB. Recommended power is between 20W-180W. Cosmetically, the speakers looks nice for its vintage. Some scuff marks, nicks here and there which are age appropriate. We don’t have the original packaging but will securely pack them for safe shipping. They will be shipped in two boxes so multiply by two for actual shipping.
