The Brilon is a cousin of the floorstanding Virgo speakers. So if you have a smaller room size that couldn’t accommodate the Virgo, then the Brilon is an exceptional alternative. Its compact size – 6.3″ wide, 9″ deep and 13″ height belies its powerful presentation when called for. In fact, when placed on sturdy stands (strongly recommended) the Brilon laid out an impressively sized soundstage that you could have mistaken as coming from larger speakers. Each speaker has one 3/4″ tweeter, one 4.5″ woofer and one 5.5″ passive radiator on the back. They ring out a frequency range of 60Hz to 40KHz which in the right room placement, gave the impression they were more “thunderous” than it is spec out to be. Highs were cleanly detailed and the mids full and rich. We happened to have a pair of Acoustic Energy AE1s around to compare them with and although the AE1s sounded faster, the Brilon was overall, the more musical sounding speaker. In our ears, it was the more receptive speaker. The Brilon can be current hungry speakers so feed them with at least 70W or more. The nominal impedance in them are 4 ohm with a sensitivity of 86 dB.
Cosmetically, the speakers looks nice. Some scuff marks/nicks here and there but nothing major. Speakers are solidly made and pass with flying colors on the knuckle test. We don’t have the original packaging but will securely pack them for safe shipping.
