The magical, captivating sound of 300Bs are one of the main reasons why so many audiophiles swear by them. Pair them with efficient speakers (typically full range or horns) and your listening sessions can be a dreamy experience. Although only 8W per channel, it drove our Zingali Omniray HM-215 with stunning results. The Zingali’s with its 96 dB sensitivity and 6 ohm impedance was a breeze to drive with the TRV-A300SE even though the speakers stand 70″ tall and had two 15″ woofers. In this pairing, the TRV-A300SE did not in any way sounded under powered or out of place. The mids were simply beguiling and had that unmistakable warm, smooth exuberance that 300Bs have come to be known for. Bass was full, with a good pounding in the deepest of notes and the highs sweet and clear. The TRV-A300SE is not for all speakers. It likes speakers that are very efficient and easy to drive (6-8 ohms). The previous owner of this unit put in Audio Note’s 300Bs which turned out to be a perfect pairing. Hours on the tubes are around 600 hours so plenty of life left. Built and finish is to the high standards we have come to expect from Japanese high end gear. As far as we are concern, this is as good as the Audio Note Conqueror which is closely similar with its twin 300B and twin 6SN7 tubes for much less money.
Cosmetically, the unit looks really good. Some minor scuff marks here and there but nothing major. Unit will be securely packed for safe shipping.
