The CJ55 was not set out to be a ground breaking turntable but rather, an affordable alternative to the likes of LINN LP12 and the Thorens TD-160. Design was simple enough with only one focus – sound quality. This table was installed with the LINN Basik LVX arm (itself a $295 value!) and an AQ 404 MC cartridge. Overall condition is very good considering its vintage and works perfectly. Motor and belt runs smoothly and changing of speed is easily done by lifting the platter and swapping the belt to the larger pulley. There is no mat at the moment so you may want to get a new wool or rubber mat to place on top of the platter. The AQ 404 MC cartridge is fine now but with any used turntables that we sell, we always recommend getting a spare cartridge handy. Especially in the absence of a detailed record of usage.
Music was unsurprisingly analog. This is as “natural” as you can get for under $500. No digital harshness and just smooth music. The CJ55 is like a time machine, taking you back to how music sounded when analog was king. You might miss the frequency extension of digital but once you settle down to the CJ55 and have a good collection of vinyl, you will be relishing the black stuff.
Cosmetically, the unit is in very good condition. Some minor scuff marks that are common with use but nothing major. We don’t have the original box but will securely pack this for safe shipping.
