For the small to medium size room, the Haydn Grand speakers you see here will be one of the best fit you would find in any price point. Some would argue that the Rogers LS 3/5 is the ideal choice or even some Spendor, KEF speakers. But for the money, the Haydn Grand offers a value proposition that is hard to match. Bass was definitely deeper than the Rogers, mids were fuller and the highs smoother. The highs could have benefited with a sharper response to give it a “crispier” sound but if you listen to lots of vocals, jazz and classical, they work fine. Its when it crosses with electric guitars where the sharpness is slightly missed. A good solid stand is mandatory to bring the best out of these speakers and good quality amplification. Switching between a “price matched” Adcom to an “over the top” Classe power amp brought audible improvements in sound.
Cosmetically, the speakers look good. The gloss black finish has its usual polishing swirl marks and minor scuff marks here and there but nothing major. The grille covers are missing a few pegs and a few small holes on the fabric but stays on fine. They look better without it anyway.
