The 4.6 preamp with its outboard power supply is another giant killer of a preamp. This is a preamp from the golden years where a good sounding unit does not always equate with a high price tag. Back then, its $660 price tag was a steal. Jump straight to today and its transparency, immediacy and fast bass would embarrass many current preamps that cost up to $1,000. Sure it doesn’t have convenient features like remote control but paired it with a good amp, speakers and a source unit (all under $300-400 each), you would have assembled a very wholesome sounding system for less than $2,000.
Cosmetically, the preamp looks good. Minor scuff marks here and there but nothing major. The model tag on the front has gone to the twilight zone which seems to be the common ailment among the 4.6. We don’t have the original boxes but will securely pack them for safe shipping.
