The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree is a good way to describe the sonic quality of the CC1 center channel speaker from Proac. It had all the hallmarks of a Proac speaker – punchy dynamics, strong mid-range presence and smooth highs. In fact, when we listened to this with the Response 3.8 tower speakers (the three speakers were previously used together in a music first and video second home theater setup) in out home theater room, the $900 CC1 kept pace with the $8,000 3.8 tower speakers and gave a thrilling experience when watching movies. Of course its not going to compete against larger center channel speaker for soundstaging and depth but in the more modest AV system, the CC1 will work very nicely. We like to think the CC1 as a “add on” speaker to the two channel Proac speaker setup where it will offer the same sonic attributes and seamless blending with its other family members to its right and left. Its more for the Proac music system (or other non-Proac speaker setup) that occasionally needs a center channel for movie watching. The CC1 is an easy to drive 8 ohm speaker. Recommended power is 20-150 watts. Size wise, it is 17.5″ wide, 7.5″ deep and 7″ tall.
Cosmetically, the speaker looks good. Some minor scuff marks from use but nothing major. Speaker was previously bi-wired so there are no jumpers for it. We don’t have the original box but will securely pack it for safe shipping.
