This is one phono preamp with an amazing range of load and gain configuration. It can be configured to match almost any cartridges out there. We have always treated the phono preamps from Sutherland as our benchmark phono stages because of their quality and reasonable prices. North Star’s Phonostage is our newest addition to what has been a Sutherland dominated category (in our store at least). We were pleasantly treated to a thrilling performance when we had this hooked up to a VPI Classic 3 turntable with a Lyra Delos MC cartridge. Music was rich, had lots of texture and a nicely set soundstage. It is slightly more colored over the neutrality of Sutherland but is still one of the most musical phono stages for under $3,000. Technically, this is a “two” chassis phono stage where the power supply unit would have normally been placed in a separate chassis but North Star decided to place it within but shield it, and have the umbilical cord connecting the two “sections” (the sensitive input board and the power supply) together. The grey cable you see on the back of the unit is the power umbilical cord.
Cosmetically, the unit is in very nice shape. Minor scuff marks from use but nothing major. We have the original box and manual.
