Marantz may have Ken Ishiwata on their team but NAD has Bjorn Erik Edvardsen (the BEE behind the model name). This 80W integrated amp is a multiple award winner. Absolute Sound magazine even hailed it as the champion fighter with other integrated amps that cost up to $3,000. We tried it in our system and we have to admit, it is an impressive piece of audio gear. Layout was simple and straightforward with the emphasis on music and only music. The signature warm smooth sound of NAD was clearly evident here. It was relaxed and composed with all kinds of music thrown at it. Rock could have a bit more tempo to it but in most cases, it was utterly enjoyable.
The MDC (Modular Design Construction) slot at the back is a very interesting feature that allows new upgrades to be easily fitted on the amp, like a phono stage or a DAC. This particular unit was a former dealer demo piece. Minor scuff marks here and there but nothing major. Remote is still new in its packaging. We don’t have the original box but will securely pack this for safe shipping. Manual is available online.
