This is has been a very interesting preamp. When we first got it in, we immediately placed it side by side with McIntosh’s C2500 preamp. The LS36.5 may have much lesser features but the sonic quality is almost on par if not, a touch more vibrant sounding than the McIntosh. Built quality is first rate with an all metal chassis. Design was clearly focus on sound with two simple knobs in the front to do input selection and volume control. The Modwright has a very “lively” sound. Its warm but yet very detailed and with very clean cut lines across the soundstage. A 20-30 minute warm time before turning on your poweramp is recommended to hear the best of this preamp. There are lots of positive reviews out there on this preamp and some reviewers have even called it the best tube preamp in the $5,000 price category and even branded it as equals with Audio Research’s Reference 3 preamp. That’s an amazing compliment.
Cosmetically, the unit is in very nice shape. Some minor scuff marks here and there but nothing major. We have the original box, manual and remote and will securely double pack this preamp for safe shipping.
