Before you go shaking your head in disbelief at the price tag of this headphone amp, consider the Hifiman Shangri-La Electrostatic headphone and amp system which sells for $50,000! So in percentage terms, the Mal Valve at more than seven times cheaper is somewhat a bargain (albeit it is not offered as a headphone and amp combo like Hifiman’s Shangri-La). In dollar terms, its still a very expensive unit and you need to have really high end headphones like Stax’s SR-009S electrostatic headphones (which sells for more than $4,000) to fully enjoy the ecstatic sounds a high end headphone amp and a top tier electrostatic headphone combination is capable off. The Head Amp Three is a dedicated design to fully exploit the prowess of electrostatic headphones or dynamic headphones. Even “lesser” electrostatic headphones like the Audeze LCDi4 that we just sold benefited greatly when paired to the Head Amp Three. The Audeze may have been a $2,500 pair of headphones but its level performance was raised and was on par with the Stax SR-009S headphone paired to an “ordinary” headphone amp. Crystal clear sound with mind bending ability to center the soundstage squarely in your mind when you have your eyes closed. Tubes used are 2 x ECC 81 tubes, 4 x EF 184 tubes and 4 x 6V6 power tubes.
Cosmetically, the unit looks really good had seen minor use. Unit will be securely packed for safe shipping. It is shipped in a crate so shipping cost will be a bit higher due to the weight of the crate.
