Bay Audio was a Californian speaker company that produced some pretty good speakers but never gotten much mainstream traction. They were always very well made. Good solid materials used and a tightly braced cabinet that will make the “knuckle” tester very happy. Just like this Bebop mini-monitor. Cabinet walls give a solid low thud when you give them a tap of your knuckle. Front and back fascia are aluminum plated which further adds to the rigidity of the cabinet structure and with the added weight, a more secure hold down when place on shelves or stands.
The speakers are not physically “big”. Measuring 10.5″ tall, 7″ wide and 6″ deep, they are best suited for surround sound duty or desktop speakers or in a small room environment. You could pair them with a subwoofer for a full range 2.1 speaker system. Whichever way you plan to use them, you can’t miss noticing how good these speakers can actually sound. It may not produce the deepest of bass (it only has a 5″ woofer and a 1″ soft dome tweeter) but it does have a nice, clean sounding and smooth mids and highs. Nominal impedance is 4 ohm with a frequency range of 80-20 KHz. Sensitivity is 85 dB. Although they look “small”, these speakers love power and you can give it to them without hearing much distress unless you are really pushing them beyond their physical limits.
Cosmetically, the speakers look fair. Some scuff marks/nicks here and there that are common from use but nothing drastic. Grille cover is metal based so there is definitely no fear of holes or tears that you would expect from cloth grille covers. Speakers will be securely packed for safe shipping.
