Having enjoyed some trickled down technology from the $20,000 Sondek CD-12, the Ikemi is the “affordable” way to own a slice of CD-12 heaven without spending megabucks. For just less than 1/5 the price of the CD-12 (at MSRP), the Ikemi does not in ANY way sounded like 1/5 of the CD-12. In fact, if we had to put some kind of percentage to quantify the two, we would say its sound quality is at least 85-90% that of the CD-12. Sure it does not have the over the top build and finish of the CD-12, which is expected since it is only 1/5 the price, it is still a remarkable CD player. The Ikemi has a very refined, smooth sound with a good capture on the musical details. Soundstage was nicely laid out, fluid with 3D-like imaging. At under $1,000 now, the Ikemi is still a competitive CD player and will rival anything out there costing up to $3,000.
Cosmetically, the Ikemi looks very good. Very minor scuff marks here and there but nothing major. Its been well cared for and came from an all Linn system and enthusiast. Unit will be securely packed for safe shipping.
