The KRC-3 preamp from Krell was one of the greatest bargain in hifi when it first launched. Designed to be an “affordable” preamp for those who want to get into the Krell sound but found it too expensive, the KRC-3 was the answer. At its $3,000 MSRP, it would still be amazing value now. Ken Kessler even felt that it could be price at three, four times more and it would still be a bargain. Indeed, the KRC-3 has a lot going for it. Its pure Class A operation is a sonic gem. Music was beautifully crafted through the KRC-3. Presentation was strong, well placed and eloquent. Vocals was particularly striking and holographic. Unlike some similarly priced preamps, where the soundstage seems to “shy” behind the curtains but with the KRC-3, it commandeered the center stage. At under $1,000 its a best buy at this price point. See our other listing for the matching FPB-300 power amp for a killer Krell system for under $4,000.
As you can see from the pictures, the KRC-3 is in pretty nice condition, just minor scuff marks here and there typical from use. We don’t have the original remote but will include a pre-programmed Logitech Harmony 650 Universal remote which will control it and nine other components (if you programmed it). Unit will be be securely pack it for safe shipping.
