The KBA-75 pure class A amp was a highly decorated amp in its day and even today. It was hard (or nearly impossible) to find anyone who heard or own the amp had something bad to say about it. It was that good. Many even think that its 75W was overly conservative and was capable of much more. And we concur. Driven in 4 ohm, it goes up to 150W of Class A! We had this unit paired with several speakers in our store and you can immediately relish in the warm glowing power it was putting out to the speakers. It shared the same tube warmth that we got from our Audio Research V70 tube amp but with more control, a darker quieter background and more detail retrieval. It made other class A amps like the Monarchy Audio SM70 monoblocks sound thin in comparison. This unit was completely checked out and had its caps and resistors replaced. Power delivery was smooth and well mannered. This is a highly energized amp so there are no filters to suppress energy “flow” so with certain more sensitive speakers, you get the usual but very normal “soft” thud when the amp is turned off. Regardless, this is a legendary piece that has been given a new lease of life for many more years to come.
Cosmetically, the unit looks good for its age. Some scuff marks here and there but nothing major. We don’t have the original box but will securely pack this beast for safe delivery. Manual is available online.
