The XQ10 may be the smallest model in the range but if you are looking for a top notch bookshelf speaker for a small to a medium size room, this will nail it. The speakers feature Kef’s award winning Uni-Q array with “tangerine waveguide” and a dome tweeter in a totally unconventional speaker cabinet where the sides are not flat but rounded. Compared to their earlier versions of the Uni-Q array driver, this latest version has more “sparkle” to the mids and highs. So in terms of detail retrieval, the XQ10 has much more to offer. Bass is not its strong point (it only has a 5.25″ driver) but actually sounds pretty respectable in the right setting. Although Kef compares this to the legendary Rogers LS 3/5 monitor speaker, we find that its a more “bassful” version of it with sharper highs and mids than the Rogers. Is it better? I think the jury is out on this. Both are good speakers from two different era. And totally enjoyable if you are looking for a modest and intimate sounding system.
Cosmetically, the speakers look good. One corner of the speaker grille has a small wear on the cloth and very minor scuff marks typical of a showroom pair. Placement mats are included (in replacement of the spikes) with their jumpers. We don’t have the original box but will securely pack this for safe shipping.
