Speakers made with aluminum has been a quiet “rage” in the speaker scene with some brands touting their aluminum encased speakers with five figure price tags. B&W jumped on the bandwagon and offered the XT Series. The XT4 is a very slim tower speaker. It is only 6″ wide, 8″ deep and 45″ tall and within this slim silhouette is actually 3-way design with four drivers. There is the 1″ dome tweeter, one 5″ mid-woofer and two 5″ bass woofers. Before you start running off planning to get a subwoofer to accompany (its not really necessary but it won’t harm to add a bit more bottom end weight) the XT4 speakers, just take note that they are spec to run down to 40Hz and goes all the way up to 22KHz.
Speaker positioning is pretty critical to achieve a nice size soundstage. Their narrow towers can take a bit more time to find that sweet spot but once you nail it, they are a pleasure to enjoy. Sound was crisp and clear with impressive low bass energy. There was almost no “boxiness” to the sound, just clean and clear presentation. The pair you see here was a former dealer demo where they did pair them with a PV-1 subwoofer to add a heavier bottom end to the overall sound. See out other listing for the sale of the PV-1.
Cosmetically, the speakers look good. Minor scuff marks and knicks here and there but nothing major. The stabilizing footers and spikes are still in the packaging and never been used. We don’t have the manual (available online) or box but will securely pack them for safe shipping. They are shipped in two boxes.
