The P-5 speakers are not speakers that you see regularly on the used market. Maybe it was because it sounded so good and yet cost so much lesser then the 800 series that got it killed early? It does share the same drivers found on the 800 series but the P-5 was no where near the prices of these other speakers. At $1,600 MSRP back then, it was a fantastic buy. For that bargain price, you get a true 3-way speaker with kevlar mid-range, Cobex woofer and metal tweeter in a beautifully made cabinet. The slim towers will fit nicely in any size room and with a frequency response from 42Hz – 20 KHz, can produce a very well heeled soundstage. Bass was plentiful and tight and the mid-range was warm and lush. Highs were detailed and sharp and blended cohesively with the mids and bass. Speakers are nominally 8 ohms and has a sensitive of 90dB which makes them very tube friendly.
Speakers are in really nice shape. One speaker has two small rear dings which were patched up and not noticeable from the front. Usual scuff marks for a speaker this vintage are the only other marks. Grille covers has a few small holes and one of them, missing two pegs (but grille cover still stays on fine). We don’t have the original boxes but will securely pack them for safe shipping. Pickup from our store warmly welcomed.
