The AV123 speaker company was great speaker design and manufacturing company. The company has a very “interesting” history that would have made a great pre-bedtime storybook read but we will dance around that and get straight into the main gist here – the LS-6 speakers. The LS-6 speakers on its own has its own fair share of controversy but what is undisputed about these speakers is how magnificent they are. Both sonically and physically, they transcend what a $6,000 speaker should or could be. With each speaker standing 68″ tall, 12″ wide and 16.5″ deep and weighing close to 125lbs each, these are BIG speakers. As big as they are and with each speaker spotting 14 drivers – six midrange/tweeter panels and eight 6.5″ woofers, they are actually 2-way speakers. Each woofer has its own vented port at the back so some space at the back is necessary to allow it to “breathe”. Finish is a gloss black.
In our 18′ x 25′ room, the speakers was magnificent. It did require some 3′ of space from the rear and side walls to produce a deeper soundstage but once you can accord it that space, it will sing like no other speakers priced at our selling price of $2,395. A good ceiling clearance would have been more beneficial than our store’s 9′ ceiling height where vertical imaging would have expanded and thus giving a larger sound stage. These are speakers that clearly needs the space to sound its best. If you are thinking of getting this for a small or smallish medium size room, it will be overpowering. But in a larger medium size or large room with good clearance around the back, side and top, these speakers will fill the room with punchy dynamics and expansive sound staging that many speakers (if not all) in the under $4,000 price tag can match.
Cosmetically, these speakers are in great shape. Minor scuff marks here and there but nothing major. Previous owner elevated the speakers performance by installing Marigo Tuning Dots on every driver. These will be included in the sale. There are no grille covers or spikes. We have the original outer boxes and they will be shipped, strapped on to a pallet. Local pickup is welcome.
